Jealous of a redhead?

I started writing a short story that's sort of been in the back of my mind for most of a year now. And it turns out that the heroine has a mind of her own.

She was supposed to look a lot like me. Because, why not? Except her long dark hair would be naturally curly and not restricted in a chignon. Also her eyes would be green, and her boobs would be bigger than mine. Because, why not? Then I was writing a scene where I could see the sunlight dancing through willow leaves to touch her freckled face. A face that is framed by red hair...wait, red hair?

My heroine turned from a brunette into a redhead, and didn't tell me.

After asking if she's allowed to do that, and indulging in a bit of immature pouting, I told her that yes she can be a redhead with cute freckles. But if she's going to do that, then her boobs have to be smaller than mine.

I'm not sure if this is normal behavior for writers, or if I'm nuts. Maybe both.

Well, I guess I do know of one writer whose hero's unfortunate conscious turned a trilogy into four books (the hero couldn't just choose the easy quick way to do something, because that would make things too easy for the author) so I guess I should be glad that my heroine is only changing her looks on me.

She's taking on a life of her own already! I bet she'll defy you again, author.

Yep. She turned out a bit bolder than I'd intended, at least in the rough draft. She has a mind of her own, and will probably win every argument that she wants to win.
