My library card

Once upon a time there was a little girl. One evening she was at the library for story time, and was told a story about a mouse. There were lots of strawberries in the book, and lots of red.

That same evening she got her first library card. Her father wrote her last name on it, but allowed her to write her own first name. She was so proud that she clumisly wrote the letters of her name upside down so that the librarian could see what her name was.

The girl is now 23 years old, and although some might have "lost" their card so that they could get a less childish signiature on their new one she has kept it. That awkward signiature is proof of how long she has been a library patron, and she takes a certain childish delight in how old it is.

I kept my old library card for years and years too, with all the stamped "due dates" on both sides. It may still be lurking in a box somewhere, now that I think of it.

I had suspicions about my sexual orientation when I was 18. I suppressed them but dating a boyfriend taught me that I wasn't attracted to males. By the time I was 22, I considered myself a bisexual (purely theoretical). It wasn't until I was 25 that I realized that no, I'm actually a lesbian! It was a bit of a shock. I didn't come out and have my first girlfriend until I was 30.

What can I say? Things moved slower in those days.

Sweet!

I don't have my old libary cards; they tended to be thrown out when we moved to different places (which happened a lot). I should have the last one I had from Wales, but I've been a member of 4 different libraries; one of them twice. I haven't gotten around to figuring out where the library here is and getting a card yet... Hubby keeps buying me books, and I've had some free ones in exchange for reviews via a group on Goodreads, so I haven't needed to. ;)

Debra -- Due dates on the card? What happens when a card gets filled up? And I guess I'm slightly ahead of where you were at my age, figuring out my sexual orientation. I've always known that I like guys, but tried to ignore the fact that I can also be attracted to women.

Toriz -- I guess a hubby who buys you books? I'm jealous. :) I've never actually tried the book exchange on Goodreads, although I've seen it there.

Debra -- Sorry, slightly ahead of where you were at my age, but only slightly! I'm still getting used to this. :)
